Elon Musk Terminates Twitter Employees Via Email
This Friday, all Twitter offices will remain closed. Twitter speaks of a security measure. An internally circulated list speaks of 3788 people affected.
Elon Musk has announced in a circular to his employees that the mass layoffs planned for today will be delivered by e-mail. This is reported unanimously by several US media. However, the circular does not contain any information on the number of people affected.
According to a report in the New York Times, the announcement was signed simply as “Twitter.” “As we strive to put Twitter on a healthy path, we will be going through the difficult process of reducing our global workforce,” the email reads. ” While we recognize that this will impact a number of individuals who have made valuable contributions to Twitter, this action is unfortunately necessary to ensure the company’s continued success in the future.”
The circular reached all employees on Thursday evening local time. Already on Wednesday, a list of 3788 names said to be affected by the job cuts made the rounds at Twitter, according to the New York Times. Employees then posted a “layoff guide” via Slack with information about employee rights.
Twitter deactivates access cards of all employees
In addition, some employees said as early as last night that they had lost access to Twitter’s internal systems. Likewise yesterday, according to the report, Twitter’s usual monthly day of rest was canceled. Internal chats provided to The New York Times also reportedly show that an internal employee directory was disabled.
In the official circular, Twitter also announced that all of the company’s offices would be closed today (Friday). Furthermore, all access cards would be temporarily deactivated. “To ensure the safety of all employees, Twitter systems and customer data, our offices will be temporarily closed and badge access will be disabled,” Twitter said, explaining the measure.

According to the circular, employees who are able to keep their jobs will receive an email to their company address regarding the matter. Meanwhile, those who lose their jobs will be contacted via their private email address. “We realize this is an incredibly difficult situation, whether you are affected by it or not,” the email continues. “We appreciate your contributions to Twitter and your patience as we move through this process.”
Jesse Lehrich, founder of Accountable Tech, called the layoffs an “arbitrary purge,” according to the New York Times. “There’s nothing visionary or innovative about firing employees via email,” he said. Especially when it comes to employees who have “specialized expertise and deep subject matter knowledge” before Mr. Musk “even appeared to know the business.”
