Free Online Courses: What Does Quantum Computing Bring Us?
Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI) launches free channel with online courses on quantum computing on openHPI open learning platform.
The first online course on openHPI starts on 1 June. The online courses, which are accessible to all interested parties, are accompanied by workshops and other networking opportunities. These are dedicated to innovative application possibilities by companies.
“By bundling educational offers, the HPI wants to provide a quick and easy entry into the promising field of quantum computing and its economic use,” said Meinel. It is important to quickly integrate this newly emerging key technology into teaching, research and development in Germany, so that the industrial nation of Germany can achieve a pioneering role with respect to its use and thus secure the technological sovereignty of its economy.
Presentation of prototypical applications
The learning content not only covers the theoretical basics of quantum computing technology, but also serves to transfer knowledge for prototypical applications in companies. Starting in June 2022, two scientists will teach for a fortnight basic knowledge, describe new programming requirements and security aspects.
Bettina Just, Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science at the Technical University of Central Hesse, will begin on 1 June with a course on the introduction to quantum computing. Immediately afterwards, Professor Jörg Hettel from the University of Kaiserslautern will lead a two-week course on encryption in quantum computing.
Other free courses will follow in autumn and winter – for example, an advanced course by Sabine Wölk from the DLR Institute for Quantum Technology at Ulm University and a series of courses on new programming paradigms led by Professor Gerhard Hellstern from the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University. A cooperation with IBM Switzerland also enables further open online courses, ranging in topic from dealing with the quantum software Qiskit to machine learning and junior courses for schools.
