German Industry Lagging Behind in Digitisation
eco survey: 55 percent complain about bureaucratic hurdles in digitization projects in German industry.
When it comes to digitisation, German industry tends to be worse positioned in an international comparison, say 83.7 percent of IT experts in Germany. Only 3.9 percent believe that German industry is in a better digital position than its international peers, while 10.9 percent answered “partly”. They cite bureaucratic hurdles, a lack of expertise and data protection requirements as the biggest challenges facing the digitization of German industry. The shortage of skilled workers also plays a major role for 48.2 percent. These are the findings of a survey of 250 IT experts conducted by the opinion research institute Civey on behalf of eco – the German Internet Industry Association.
“German industry is in danger of losing out internationally when it comes to digitisation,” says Oliver Süme, CEO of eco Verband. “We now need the courage to rely on data ecosystems such as Gaia-X, which enable the sovereign and secure exchange of data among all players involved.” By linking data ecosystems and infrastructure ecosystems, Gaia-X enables companies to benefit from full sovereignty and control over their growing data volumes. The result is a transparent and open system based on European standards, in which all participants can independently decide which platforms and cloud resources they use to collaborate with partners.
Concrete business models based on data ecosystems.
A toolbox for designing powerful data ecosystems for industry will be on display at Hannover Messe by Gaia-X Federation Services (GXFS) in Hall 8, Stand D26, where visitors will find the Plattform Industrie 4.0 joint stand, where various sub-exhibitors will be demonstrating their solutions and products, including Gaia-X Hub Germany and the Gaia-X European Association for Data and Cloud AISBL.
The focal points of Hannover Messe 2023 include energy management and Industry 4.0. Gaia-X supports the necessary digital transformation in companies by strengthening the data-based collaboration of companies in dynamic value networks. This helps to optimize services and develop new business models. To tap this potential, the Gaia-X Federation Services (GXFS) offer a toolbox for building Gaia-X Federation.
