NetApp Receives AAA Rating for Innovative AI-enabled Ransomware Detection Solution

NetApp ONTAP Autonomous Ransomware Protection with AI earns AAA rating from SE Labs, highlighting its effectiveness in detecting and responding to ransomware.

NetApp today announced that its NetApp ONTAP® Autonomous Ransomware Protection with Artificial Intelligence (ARP/AI) solution has received a AAA rating from SE Labs, an independent rating agency that specialises in evaluating security products and services. NetApp ARP/AI protection has demonstrated 99% effectiveness in detecting ransomware with no false positives.

The ability to respond quickly to ransomware attacks is crucial to ensure business continuity and avoid significant disruptions. Organisations require solutions that provide automatic and accurate detection and response, integrated into their primary storage systems, to minimise damage from data loss and downtime. NetApp ARP/AI technology meets this need, providing real-time detection and response to mitigate the impact of cyber threats.

Exceptional Results in Rigorous Testing

SE Labs subjected the NetApp ARP/AI solution to extensive testing against hundreds of known ransomware variants. The results were outstanding: the solution detected 99% of advanced ransomware attacks and achieved 100% detection of legitimate files, with no false positives. This underscores its effectiveness in enterprise environments, without contributing to alert fatigue.

Protecting data against internal and external threats is crucial to an intelligent data infrastructure, enabling customers to turn disruptions into opportunities. The SE Labs validation highlights how NetApp remains at the forefront of AI innovation by applying this technology to its data services. NetApp’s new all-flash storage systems enable enterprises to leverage their data for AI workloads built on a secure storage infrastructure.

Leading Cybersecurity Innovation

“NetApp has reached an important milestone in the fight against ransomware by being the first and only storage vendor to offer AI-based, on-premise ransomware detection with externally validated, world-class protection efficacy,” said Jaime Balañá, CTO, NetApp. “Ransomware detection methodologies that rely solely on backup data are too slow to effectively mitigate the risks enterprises face. NetApp ARP/AI bolsters enterprise storage with robust, integrated detection capabilities, responding in real time to ransomware threats. SE Labs’ AAA rating reflects our commitment to innovation in intelligent data infrastructures and our goal to make NetApp the world’s most secure storage.

By integrating ransomware detection into storage, NetApp ARP/AI helps customers improve their cyber resilience, reducing the operational burden and technical expertise required to maintain an intelligent data infrastructure. NetApp ARP/AI technology continually adapts and evolves with new ransomware variants, ensuring it remains at the forefront of protection and providing a future-proof defence against the changing cyber threat landscape.
