Samsung Electronics Announces 0.65 mm LPDDR5X DRAMs

Manufactured using a 12nm process, the new generation of memory comes in 12GB and 16GB capacities.

Samsung Electronics has started mass production of new memory packages. It is the thinnest 12nm LPDDR5X DRAM to date, with 12GB and 16GB versions.

The South Korean company explains that it has managed to reduce thickness by 9 per cent compared to the previous generation, to 0.65 mm, as well as boosting heat resistance by 21.2 per cent.

“Samsung’s LPDDR5X DRAM sets a new standard for high-performance on-device AI solutions, offering not only superior LPDDR performance, but also advanced thermal management in an ultra-compact package,” said YongCheol Bae, executive vice president for memory product planning at Samsung Electronics.

With this announcement Samsung aims to meet “the future needs of the low-power DRAM market”. These LPDDR5X memory modules are targeted at the mobile segment.
