SECA, the European Sovereign Cloud API Arrives

This application programming interface is powered by Aruba, IONOS and Dynamo and allows you to manage cloud infrastructure.

Aruba, IONOS and Dynamo announce SECA, an application programming interface (API) aimed at managing cloud infrastructure without relying on third parties.

Dubbed the European Sovereign Cloud API, it aims to drive data interoperability between cloud services.

The goal is to enable workloads and applications to be deployed and run in environments of users’ choice.

The initial version of SECA is available to European cloud providers free of charge.

Aruba and IONOS will be the first CSP service providers to offer this API to their customers.

Meanwhile, Dynamo will implement SECA-based connectors to automate the provisioning of compatible providers.

The SECA standard is open and promises access to a secure, compliant cloud ecosystem, as well as multi-cloud interoperability, easy deployment and rapid training.

‘Artificial intelligence and cloud are key technologies that are not only redefining the rules of the global economy, but have also become a matter of European sovereignty in the context of current geopolitical developments,’ comments Achim Weiß, CEO of IONOS.

‘Europe cannot afford to be dependent on external influences,’ he continues. ‘We need a strong and truly sovereign digital ecosystem.’

‘SECA is a fundamental pillar for the development of a secure, independent and future-proof digital infrastructure, an infrastructure that strengthens Europe, keeps it competitive and ensures its digital sovereignty,’ he concludes.

Aruba CEO Stefano Cecconi explains that this initiative ‘represents a fundamental and voluntary step for the cloud industry in Europe, improving interoperability and strengthening the cloud services ecosystem on the continent’.

Meanwhile, his counterpart at Dynamo, Francesco Bonfiglio, points out that this type of API means ‘uniform data access and control for adopters’ and values this ‘strong agreement for the trust of customers and providers’.
