Smartphone shipments with Generative AI Will Increase by More than 360% this Year

According to IDC estimates, they will reach 234.2 million units to take almost a fifth of the market.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is here to revolutionise everything, including the smartphone industry.

Consultancy firm IDC forecasts that shipments of phones with generative AI will reach 234.2 million units this year. This would mean taking almost a fifth of the global smartphone market. It also represents a 363.6% year-on-year growth in shipment volume.

The momentum will not stop there, although growth will not be as spectacular in later stages. By 2025 the increase in this market segment will be 73.1 %, according to experts.

By 2028 the number of smartphones with generative AI shipped should be 912 million.

In any case, IDC believes that the next decade is set to be “the most exciting period for the smartphone market”.

“The rapid incorporation of generative AI into smartphones is unprecedented in the history of mobile,” says Nabila Popal, senior research director at IDC, who adds that market penetration should exceed “60% in the first three years”.

“The most significant impact of this evolution is expected in 2026,” she says, “when mid-range devices are expected to adopt this technology, making a momentous leap towards the democratisation of generative AI”.

Popal is clear: “Generative AI will completely transform the way we interact with our smartphones”.
