SoftBank Reaches Acquisition Agreement with Ampere

The operation should be completed during the second half of the year for a price of 6.5 billion dollars.

SoftBank and Ampere have reached an agreement whereby the Japanese multinational will pay 6.5 billion dollars to acquire the US company, which specialises in semiconductors.

Ampere designs performance and efficiency-focused, ARM-based processors that target cloud computing and artificial intelligence.

With a workforce of around 1,000 engineers and its technology capabilities, SoftBank expects Ampere to play a key role for growth markets. As a result of this transaction, it will become its subsidiary.

If all goes according to plan, the transaction will be completed in the second half of the year. The purchase has been approved by the Board of Directors, but remains subject to regulatory action.
