Supporting Corporate Legal Departments with AI
Deutsche Telekom’s new Software-as-a-Service AI solution “Law Monitor” helps quickly identify changes to national and international laws.
In today’s highly regulated environment, both in Germany and worldwide, companies must monitor an increasing number of laws to maintain legal compliance. This necessity spans all sectors and requires significant resources. For instance, as of last month, the packaging industry is required to produce disposable plastic bottles with attached lids to reduce plastic waste in the environment. Such changes in legal requirements demand prompt action from affected industries.
Automated monitoring of laws
The Law Monitor automates the time-consuming process of monitoring laws by scanning legal texts from the Federal Law Gazette. Using AI, the solution recognises and structures online legal texts from various formats, including plain text, images, and tables. Legal department employees can view changes at a glance through a dashboard. This allows lawyers to focus more on checking content and evaluating the context of these changes.
Compared to existing competitor products, the Law Monitor will be able to display legal changes from different countries in a single tool. Currently, it monitors legislative changes in Germany, with plans to add 19 more countries, including individual U.S. states, in the coming months. The Law Monitor is relevant for all sectors, including the public sector.
Transparency in real time
"Automotive companies, for example, must check daily for changes in laws," says Ferri Abolhassan, CEO of T-Systems. "Since July 7, binding regulations for the integration of specific assistance systems, such as emergency braking and lane departure warning systems, have been in force throughout the EU for new cars. The Law Monitor helps car manufacturers make these regulations transparent in real time, allowing them to adapt production at an early stage."
